New Essay in upcoming anthology, Welsh (Plural), published by Repeater Press
I was commissioned to write a piece on the state/status/history/phenomenon that is Welsh publishing for a new anthology of essays on Wales and it's coming out soon.
Last year, I was commissioned to write an essay on the subject of Welsh literature for a new anthology of essays on Wales and Welsh identity by the brilliant Darren Chetty (how could I possibly say no). That essay is now to be found alongside others on different aspects of Wales and Welsh identity - writers such as Niall Griffiths, Charlotte Williams, Joe Dunthorne, Kandace Siobhan Walker, and more. Having now received my contributor copy in the post, I can attest it is a vibrant and dynamic collection, and I couldn't;t be more chuffed to be included. Darren and his co-editors, Greg Muse, Hanan Issa, and Iestyn Tyne, have done a remarkable job.
My contribution is titled “Being a Welsh Novelist: A Choose Your Own Adventure Game” and combines personal experience, ongoing research into Welsh literature and publishing, and my love for the creative essay form.
Here’s a sneak preview. Hopefully it’s enticing enough to make you want to buy the book.
The book is titled Welsh (Plural) and is available now from Repeater Books on pre-order. It is released in March 2022. You can order your copy (and read more about it) here.
I have a few other commissions that I’ll be working on in 2022, and I’ll publish more news about them when the time is right via this newsletter. In the meantime, I will work to publish more creative essays that in some way or another approach the subject of storytelling - but those commissions I can’t talk about right now also mean I may be publishing less than I had originally intended on here (good job you don’t pay to subscribe, really, isn’t it?).
More from me soon.
